Frequently Asked Questions
How could Dysonet offer such low rates for international express shipments?
Dysonet is a partner of a large-scale logistics brokerage firm UnitedEx that represents DHL, FedEx, and UPS. Similar to any marketing network, the higher the volume, the lower the cost. We pass our deeply discounted rates to our customers so everyone can enjoy affordable international shipping from first-tier carriers. In particular, our DHL shipments are both cheaper and faster than the express mail offered by the Post Office, unless your goods fit in one of their flat-rate boxes. We encourage you to compare our rates with the Post Office before you decide to ship with us.
Why does Dysonet's online shipping only offers DHL services?
Although our group is authorized to represent multiple carriers, at the present time, DHL offers by far the most competitive prices and services. If for any reason you wish to ship with another carrier (such as FedEx or UPS), please contact our customer service and we'll make special arrangements for you offline.
Say I have a package to sent to Taiwan, how do I ship with Dysonet?
- If you have not already done so, register with us as a member.
- Use our online system to create a new shipment. You would enter the address and contact information for the shipper and the reciever; the weight and dimentions of the packages to be shipped, and the descriptions of the contents and their customs value. If you are a new member you will be asked to enter your credit card to proceed, otherwise, after making sure of the accuracy of the shipment information, you would click a button to send us a request to generate your shipping label and commercial invoice.
- Our staff would proof-read your shipment and, if everything looks good, they will email you the required shipping documents within 30 minutes (limited to Pacific Time 9AM to 6PM).
- Following our instructions in the email, you would print out the paperwork and wait for the DHL driver to pick up your packages.
- Track your shipment using the link we provided in the email until the packages are delivered to the receiver.
When will my credit card be charged?
Although we ask you to enter a valid credit card, your card will NOT be charged until we receive the official invoice from DHL for your shipments. The reason is although we trust that you must have tried your best to accurately measure the weight and size of you package, your numbers may not match the measurements of DHL's automated system. Sometimes our customers report higher numbers than they actually ship and other times lower. To avoid price adjustments we elect to wait (usually between 7 to 10 business days after the shipment) until we receive DHL's invoice and then charge your card only once.
In our experience, DHL's electronic/laser systems are highly accurate. However, if for any reason, you believe that DHL made a mistake, we will also help you file a dispute, although a difference of a pound or two usually does not warrant such a dispute. You are also encouraged to call DHL's customer service department directly to verify the weight and dimensions of your packages by providing the tracking number of your shipment.
What do I do with the decimal points of my measurements?
All numbers need to be rounded up. For example, if the weight is 23.3lbs you have to enter 24lbs. Likewise, if the dimensions you measured are 13.2"×14.8"×15.0" then you would have to enter 14"×15"×15".
I don't have a scale to weigh my packages, what do I do?
That is fine. Just do your best and enter an estimated number. However, keep in mind that the shipping cost calculated at the time of shipment is simply an estimate based on your input values, and the final price is going to be determined by the DHL invoice we will receive about 7~10 business days after your shipment. Since we don't charge your credit card until we receive the DHL invoice, it is OK that you entered an incorrect weight number when you ship.
Why do I have to become a member to ship with Dysonet?
First of all, registering with us can not be easier. You only need to provide your name and a valid email to become a member. Everything else is optional. We ask you to login before you can ship with us because of our post-pay business model. Being able to associate each shipment to a user account is important for us to track the shipment and process the credit card after we receive the invoice from DHL. In addition, if you are logged in, you can use a previous shipment as the template for a new shipment, saving a lot of data entry time when you wish to ship to the same receiver again in the future. Keeping track of all your shipments in an account will also allow you to accumulate "mileage", which may become the basis for a future discount based on your shipping volume.
Can I ship to any country? What about China?
Basically you can ship from the United States to pretty much any free country, although the discount levels vary from country to country. However, we do not recommend individuals (as opposed to companies) to ship anything other than documents to China, because China customs imposes extremely strict rules on personal imports. If you are a business shipping to another business in China, things are much easier as long as the declared customs value is less than 5,000 RMB. Otherwise, you are usually better off shipping with the post office.
How are import duties collected in the destination country?
DHL has its own customs clearing desk in most countries it operates in. If a shipment is dutiable, DHL will pay all duties and taxes on behalf of the recipient to streamline the process. However, the recipient must pay DHL for these charges before DHL releases the package. This usually means that the receiver would have to pay the DHL driver at the time of delivery.

Are there additional fees for delivering to destinations in rural areas?
